Through her work at The College Psychiatrist, Dr. Aboukar strives to provide holistic and integrative care, combining evidence-based treatments with empathy and compassion. She is currently pursuing a fellowship in integrative psychiatry, exploring alternative and complementary approaches to mental health treatment, such as functional medicine and interventional psychiatry.

Dr. Mariam Aboukar is a compassionate and dedicated psychiatrist committed to providing holistic and integrative mental health care to her patients. She graduated from Ohio State University with her undergraduate degree and attended Ohio University/Cleveland Clinic for medical school. Following medical school, she completed her residency at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and pursued a fellowship at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Aboukar's diverse background includes training in child and adolescent psychiatry and consultation-liaison psychiatry. She has experience working with patients of all ages, from children to older adults, and is dedicated to providing personalized and compassionate care to each individual she serves.

Motivated by her life purpose and passions, Dr. Aboukar chose psychiatry as her specialty. She finds deep fulfillment in helping individuals navigate their mental health and well-being, utilizing an integrative approach incorporating various therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

In her current role, Dr. Aboukar focuses on serving college students and their families, recognizing the unique challenges and opportunities for growth during this transformative period of life. She is passionate about addressing the pressing mental health issues facing college students, including increased rates of mental illness, depression, suicide, and substance abuse.
